Hello guys!

I recently was invited and join this band or musical tribe as they like to think of themselves. It's something special and raw since they make the instruments by themselves. - all sounds are real, not electronic... Speciality is the bass 'harp' and organ, working through air compressor. Being playing with them now for month and gonna have a concert with them soon on 17. april, when ecological action 'Let's clean Slovenia in one day'.
Here it is the video for song Let's went!

Take care and groove on!

WOW Pimp , you must be real happy working with these guys . I love the sound created very interesting and kind of fresh , but to think there are no electronic instruments, it makes a great sound . Thats bucket drumming on steroids for sure .

"Homenaje A Los Congueros Mayores" is an excellent video of the old Cuban masters. Tata, Mongo, Armando, Francisco, Patato and Candito. You can see Tata's finess and technique and the raw power and "sabrosura" of Mongo at a very prime time. The video of Mongo and Armando trading licks is very classic. I saw that band in 1970 at Miami Dade Community College and that outing, with Mongo and Armando, changed my musical life. At the time the timbalero was Steve Berrios, the guy playing the cowbell was the late Ray Maldonado, an outsatnding trumpet player who later on worked with Stevie Wonder. The bass player was Eddie Guagua Rivera and the piano player was Eddy Martinez from Colombia. Mongo and Armando really kicked butt in that segment. Incredible video!!!!

Hi Issac...Wow!..I have Mustaphas first recording from back in the 70;s what a great player...didnt know if he was even still around...his Brothers also put out some albums...playing Kpanlogo music...and Los Ibellis...it still brings tears to my eyes to see how young Adonis is on quinto and singing and playing...amazing at that age to do what he does...even most seasoned drummers could never do what he does..."JC" Johnny Conga

Here is some old footage of the late Jorge "El Niño" Alfonso playing 5 congas with Irakere.El Niño Alfonso was Anga's predecessor in Irakere. I don't know if this exact clip has been posted here yet, I couldn't find it in a search.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XLbKnhj0iQ

Don't try to watch in detail, the AV sync is off, just listen. That is the cleanest and tastiest 5 drum guaguanco I have heard. No maiz tostado, no double stroke rolls, no off-clave riffs, no hits on top of each other, just guaguanco like it is supposed to sound with 3 drummers who have been playing together their whole lives. Except there is only 1 drummer (after Oscar Valdez puts down the bongo in the beginning). Daniel Ponce, GIovanni, Anga, Richie Flores, Pauli Mejias all have their own 5 drum styles with incredible chops, but to me none of them touch El Niño for sound, cadencia, melodia, y puro sabor. Amazing.
