Here is some old footage of the late Jorge "El Niño" Alfonso playing 5 congas with Irakere.El Niño Alfonso was Anga's predecessor in Irakere. I don't know if this exact clip has been posted here yet, I couldn't find it in a search.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XLbKnhj0iQDon't try to watch in detail, the AV sync is off, just listen. That is the cleanest and tastiest 5 drum guaguanco I have heard. No maiz tostado, no double stroke rolls, no off-clave riffs, no hits on top of each other, just guaguanco like it is supposed to sound with 3 drummers who have been playing together their whole lives. Except there is only 1 drummer (after Oscar Valdez puts down the bongo in the beginning). Daniel Ponce, GIovanni, Anga, Richie Flores, Pauli Mejias all have their own 5 drum styles with incredible chops, but to me none of them touch El Niño for sound, cadencia, melodia, y puro sabor. Amazing.
