Well it's a political "can of worms" this subject may be too political for discussion here. But IF anybody wants to respond, ok...."JC" Johnny Conga....

Well I'm not going to open that can of gusanos but it's interesting to note that Los Van Van were the first band really to express post 59 Cuban social and political feelings in popular songs.

Well brother Charangaman,in reality 'La Ritmo Oriental', 'Los Latinos', Rumbahavana, where in that swing before,..but in the 1970's the Government wanted to set a record in Cuba's sugar/cane production putting the goal to 10 millions tons, and Juan Formell capitalized in the subject creating songs to that respect and 'Los diez Millones 'Van'. setting the name with that motto, 'Los Van Van', it catched with the government, creating a good 'political correct lyrics', which at that time was more important than anything else.Dr. Zaragemca

Fair enough Dr Z but those bands didn't crossover or have the international impact that L.V.V did, in my opinion.

And although hardly counterevolutionary, Juan Formell and L.V.V were certainly highly politicized.

To properly answer that question I would have to get into the political/turf and I would like to keep it in the musical/enviorenment.Dr. Zaragemca
