Just got back home last night and saw all these replies! What a treat! Congamyk, I will try to make it to Kansas City sometime, but I first got to get over my jet-lag... Kansas City, here I come!
Abakua, yeah, MaSSivdrums had some killer pics taken, and what a blast to see them here!
Afrocubarico, thanks, yeah, I think there are mango wood congas among them, as well as monkeypod and maybe some other kind of woods in some of 'em, too. Massivdrums would know for sure, as some are his and some belong to the studio where he works a lot.
They all sounded awesome - talk about resonance! I never heard drums like them. The owner of Spectrum Studio, Kirk, was kind enough to let me do a solo recording on the congas - I asked for it - exactly because I had never heard such great sound in congas, and don't know when I'll have a chance to play such drums again... Well, they were recorded totally flat - no effects - and Kirk copied it to CDR and gave me a copy.
Woy, woy, woy - what sound! No mixing, no nothing - and those congas ring like nothing I ever heard. The tones sang, the pops popped so high... I will try to get some of that li'l take sent to congaplace soon.
Diceman, I DID smile in the video. Well, okay, just once, briefly. But inside, I'm smilin' most all the time!!!! Plenty to smile about...
Thanks, conga bros, for your feedback!
And thanks, MaSSivdrums, for the chances to play on those dream drums, and for all the fun - and incredible hospitality!
