Hi Tonio,
Sounds like you did a nice job, 2 out of 2 great reviews so far. Any chance I could get a copy of the tracks you recorded?

Actually, it would be fun if those who are interested could record ourselves playing congas / bongos / timbales with your piano track, and post and critique our audio recordings. I am sure we can keep our criticisms constructive, and it would be a great learning experience.

Vinniel, for a free multitrack recording software, some people swear by Audacity.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I don't know if it records directly into MP3, but it can record and convert wav files and edit in MP3. I haven't used it (I use Adobe Audition and Sound Forge), but it has been around several years, v 1.2.6 has been pretty well debugged, and lots of people like it. It is multiplatform open source freeware.

Hey while i'm writing do you by any chance know if any of they free recording/editing software available records in mp3 format? i want to be able to send clips of me playing to someone. I want to record right to the computer using a mic.

cool bro!! Glad you like it.
Well the app I'm using can export as a mp3. I use Digital Performer (MAC) and pretty much does all formats. If not a have another app that pretty much does it all, but more for mastering etc.
On the windows side I'm sure its all in WAVE then you should be able to convert into MP3. There is alot of free convertors and recording programs. more on the PC side than MAC.
I hear raper is OK.

And Ntrack about $50 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/12066

Any decent one will take some bucks however. If yuo really want to record some thing that sounds decent get some good mics and audio interface.
