Thanks Konga.

yea, i like this kind of finish, but some think its too glossy.

I think the grain is highlighted this way.. Its such stunning wood, this Mahogany..

It didn't have a glass coat, like the later oak models often do.

but i figured out a trick to get the glass coat off.. paint with stripper, let sit for a bit, wipe off as much as you can... not much usually... let dry, then sand it off. - at that point it comes right off. Probably creates toxic dust.. even with citrus based strippers, i bet.

Hope that helps,

Tony

Tony, et al.
Just got it yesterday. Since USPS is on the way to Eric's I got the box at the post office, then opened it at Eric's before the Tues. night beginner practice. We put some lug oil on the bolts, and added washers so that we could tune it up, and played a Guaguanco.. It's always a challenge getting the beginners on board with Guaguanco, but we got 'em going, and bless them, they held the rhythm tight for about 30 minutes, while I played a bunch of quinto.. Everyone commented on how beautiful the drum sounded! :D
Thanks Tony! Nice restoration!!! It's solid as a rock and just beatiful!
