Alafia Abure JC!

I just listened to the interview and right at 2:51 into the interview he states that Cuba is the land of his mother and that he has numerous relatives buried there!
Wow! I never thought he was remotely Cuban, but then again......

Classic Chappotin with Miguelito Cuni. Too bad the AV sync is out, pero esto si es sabroso.

Regarding the question of Ruben Blades' Cuban ancestry, here is a blog entry that gives a history of his mother Anoland Bellido de Luna-Caramés y Perez being born in Regla in 1927, and moving from Cuba to Panama in the 40s to marry Ruben's father. It also says she was one of 22 brothers and sisters, her mother was from Galicia and her father from New Orleans. Her father (Ruben's maternal grandfather) went to Cuba to fight in the Spanish-Cuban-American war and stayed, which makes him Cuban in my book. The video clip in that blog shows Ruben with his parents, and his mother definitely sounds Cuban (and she can dance!). So the Cuban diaspora is bigger than we think...

The interview was posted by me, Omelenko1 (Dario). Ruben's mother was born in the town of Regla, in La Habana, therefore, Ruben eventhough born in Panama, is half Cuban ancestry from his mother's side. Ruben mentions towards the end of the interview how the term Salsa is a commercial term and how it evolves from Cuban music, son, mambo, danzon.....

Sorry Dario, I was editing my post while you posted yours and changed what I had misstated that inspired your response. It was you who first posted the interview of Ruben where he said Cuba was his mother's homeland, and Onile pointed out his statement in the interview.

The Cuban diaspora is something else...

A little bit off topic, but I thought I might ask.

Both my parents are from Cuba (Cespedes, Camaguey, and Piedresita, Pinar Del Rio). My kids have Cuban ancestery, but also have Belizan and Mexican roots from her mother...

That being said, we are trying to work on a family tree for my oldest girls... Has anybody had any luck with Ancestery.com for records in Cuba, or other Latin American countries?

THE GODFATHERS OF THE DRUM!!!.....for you young guys..that never got to see Mongo live I can tell you that his playing was intense and powerful..his slaps were like getting punched in the stomach...he also 'shared' his stage..something I dont see today, and Mongo did the same when it came to recording, he brought other great drummers together, and that is the respect that they gave him , to perform on his recordings..No Conga player today has done this ...how I mean this would be like ..what Mongo did, take another Great name conguero on tour with him....if im wrong I'd like to see an example..of who else has done this...I know Fransisco 'shared' his stage, but I dont think he toured with any other big names that played as well...
Here is Mongo and Armando..killing it!!...watch it all, it just gets better....
