Last night I listened to Ottmar Liebert's Noveau Flamenco, and a few days ago I heard Oscar Lopez's Heat. Liebert's stuff is a little more like a cross between flamenco and smooth jazz, but it's pretty good. Lopez's stuff is a lot more flamenco. Ii guess some of it is considered "rumba flamenca" or something like that. Good stuff.

Hey guys,
I just got a hold of two albums that sound really great, Descarga Cubana by Joaquin Pozo (the grandson of the late, great, Chano Pozo) and Mark Levine and The Latin Tinge featuring Michael Spiro on congas. They both sound excellent!

Btw, can anyone help me find a copy of Aniversario by Tata Guines? I placed an order for this album on Amazon.com back in October '07 and have yet to receive it. The supplier keeps telling me the item is back ordered and cannot give me a ship date. Any help will be great. You can shoot me a private message here in the forum.

I thought I would bring this thread back to life, I remember getting a lot of good music
recommendations from here.

Right now I'm listening to a lot of bata, the Abbilona series which is some of the highest quality
recording of bata music.
You can find out more about this great series here

and I've also been listening to an old album called Afro Tambores Bata which
congaplace member Thomas Altman has written a great article on and provides a download
link to this rare and discontinued record.

They are both excellent bata records, I prefer the older style singing of Afro Tambores, it is from an
old record and the fuzz you get from those old records really kind of adds to the music for me

bnb,
Good stuff, thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to hunt those down. I'm currently listening to an old Francisco Aguabella album he recorded with his Oriza Group, all on bata. It sounds really good! Check it out...
