Johnny Conga, I just now saw the pics of you and your son - looks like you're both in heaven. How amazing the feeling must be.
As everyone said, what a beautiful story to share with us... Thank you!

Pello el afrokán: conga por barrios. Canta y toca. Las fotos en el vídeo no importan, tuve que ponerlas para poder subir la música en youtube. Es de un disco que compré en Cuba, hace años:

Jovauri,
Thanks for posting that clip of Pello el Afrokan's record Congas por Barrios. That is a great record, with a demonstration of how to play each part of a conga rhythm. Nice photos of Pello also.

There is one photo that is not Pello el Afrokan, the guy playing the red drum is Pedro Pablo Tapanes (Pello) of Afrocuba de Matanzas. He is also called Pello, but is not Pello el Afrokan. I heard that he passed several years ago, but have not confirmed that. He was also a great drummer, one of the founders of Afrocuba de Matanzas.

Hi Everyone!

No idea who filmed and posted these clips on youtube - a friend just found and showed it to me - it's at the place I play weekly in Haifa, on darbuka and drums, and my man Amin came to play this winter night (violin)...

And here's one from a different night there, a salsa night.

Hope you enjoy!

Amin is as much a monster on the violin as you are on darbouka. For a moment I was sure he was going to levitate right off the sidewalk. The salsa video showed an absolutely cool place to hang. You are lucky the atmosphere encourages and appreciates such gatherings. Here, it is all white bread and strip malls, and too many decorum police.

Thanks CongaTick!

Yes, Amin is a monster all right! You should hear him on oud - even wilder!

It's true the atmosphere here is encouraging, but the pay comes nowhere close to that of white bread land...

Especially for monster players who upset mediocre money-making players here, as no one wants heavy hitters to perform in choice venues and take their gigs... understandable, I guess. So it seems all has its plus and minus.

But I feel very lucky indeed!... I'm mainly in it for the sound...

Glad you enjoyed!
