Panga in Japan - Guarapachanguero

I just uploaded a video of Panga (Tomas Ramos Ortiz) playing Guarapachanguero / Guarapachangeo when he was in Japan giving a lesson in the early to mid 1990's. This is a demonstration at a lesson, really, rather then an actual lesson. I've seen other videos of him on youtube and most of them really don't show him playing with a lot of passion, at least in a situation like this. Here, however ...

It's an incredible Improvisation by "Panga" on 3 congas....try and do that for over 8 minutes...and how many times does he repeat anything ????....remember once again , because you can play , does not make you a Teacher....BUT HE CAN PLAY!.... :D "JC" Johnny Conga...

Definitely impressive. I assume that's an adaptation for one drummer. I would have liked to see how it meshed with 1 or 2 other drum parts.

Impressive indeed. rqshquesada posted his Guarapachangero lesson on two drums. He did not look like a bad instructor to me.

Derbeno, What I meant was, I would have liked to see it broken down and played slowly with other drummers showing their parts. Also with cajon's. It was informative nevertheless, to see how he came in on the clave. Felt odd to me. Could not feel the grove in it, like I feel it on recordings. Maybe the other drum parts or the vocals allow me to feel the clave. Thanks for the post!

Hey the Panga vid was awesome!
Congamyk, those shakers are really cool aren't they?!?
A friend of mine had a set of those, and I tried them, but could tell they'd require several years of fiddling around to get proficient, so set them aside as an after thought. He said that when he went to Africa everyone had those, and that he was bitten by the envy bug and got several sets to bring back.
Pretty cool little instruments!
Thanks!
