Conga tick,
The local library here has been a fantastic source of music for me - from Cuba and all around the world. The worst that can happen is that you don't like it and take it out of your player and put the next one in. I've discovered so many different and beautiful types of music this way - and some not so beautiful. There's even a few of the very hard to find Smithsonian Folkways recordings from different genres that are there for everyone's enjoyment!
I can sign out something like 20 CDs here at this library but I haven't got that far yet. Even better, all the libraries in this province are linked so I can browse the library in Vancouver and if I see something I like, I can request that it be sent here so I can sign it out!
And for all the music listeners out there who are sitting on top of a gold mine of CDs, cassettes or vinyl that you haven't blown the dust off in years, consider donating them to the local library so others can enjoy it!
PS: There is actually an element of risk in playing borrowed media from the library. Check each item for obvious damage before playing on your equipment. I've had to surgically remove a couple of CDs from my player that for some reason wreaked havoc with it's inner workings. You might want to try playing on an el-cheapo player before you insert it into your high-end player for safety.
