Hey thanks abacua . I will look forward to them if its possible , but thanks for the gesture ......... thinking of it they may not let you send them because of the agricultural laws they have .

thanks rumbaman :D

Alafia Abure Abakua!
I hope that you are well and in an abundance of blessings!

I'm new to this site, but am extemely impressed with your craftsmanship!
I have been searching for a Guiro de calidad! como el suyo.
I am prohibited (spiritual reasons) from cutting, trading, consuming or damaging any calabash (siento que tu me intiendes bien), but I am in search of one to play! Any chance of purchasing one from you?

Adelante mi hermano!
Que Nsambi les acutare pa' siempre!

Vaya, bienvenido Onile. :)

I understand perfectly brother.
I would hapilly sell you one, pero estoy on the other side of the lake so to speak. :D Im in Australia, and I fear it would be damaged in transit to you.
Im sure you will be able to find a well made guiro in your local area..
Perhaps some of the US members on here can help you out?
Keep us updated.

Chacho! I didn't think 'bout that!
Pero tu si que esta'en algo con lo tuyo! I really dig the ones you posted (instructions and final product)
Oye! I'm like a teenager on prom night, happy to have found this site! Me alegro en comunicarme con ustedes! Note que eras de Argentina, nosotros (latinos) nos encontramos en cada esquina del mundo!
Ache mi hermano!

I was able to pick up an interesting quiro not so long ago on ebay. It's from Puerto Rico, and is like the guiros used for Bomba y Plena, it's made of the same material that LP makes their indestructable one!
I was very interested with the final guiro that you produced! Sabes que cuando uno hace algo con sus propias manos, le brinda su propio ache y bendicion!

Oye, I hope to keep in touch, this is a great site!

La bendicion!
Que Nsambi les acutare pa' siempre!

hehehe Im glad you have joined our drumming family. :)
And yes, having planted the seeds, grown the plant and done everything myself from the start has given me an incredible feeling of satisfaction and pride in my instruments.
Whenever I take the guiro out to play, musicians are blown away when they see the quality and size of it, even more so when they learn I grew and made them from scratch.

Hope you stick around these parts.

Today I applied some new wood stainer/sealer to the gourds as the previous sealer left a sticky residue even once dried, this was removed with some mineral turpentine and some rubbing over with a soft steel wool and water, then smoothed of with the turps on a clean rag.
Once dried, 1 coat of thick stainer was applied with a small paint brush.
They are now out drying, pending on how they come out within 24hrs, another coat may be placed, but doubt it.

See below for pics.

Abakua,

They are beauties, and I bet they will sound fantastic. It must be so satisfying, growing and making your own instruments.
Can I say one more thing? This thread is what the whole forum should be about.....sharing experiences, ideas and knowledge, and not keeping secrets or pretending that everything is so difficult, complicated, and can only be passed on if you are a member of some secret society, or tribe.

Thanks again for the absence of bovine excrement!!
