I dont doubt that Gerardo can play. He obviously knows his stuff.
What does get me is his online persona, his apparent arrogance in posts, failure to ever back up/substantiate his posts/claims and his overall close mindness to any opinion other than his own. He comes across with a very inflated ego in his posts, it may be because English is clearly not his forte, however I doubt this is the case.
(I am not attacking nor insulting our Dr Z's literacy, let that be clear straight up)

I ask for a video, not for proof that he can play, like I said, Im sure he can play, but more so because Im interested to see his advanced percussion technique he mentions that he teaches.

Gueroconguero, that would be great if you could shoot a clip of Dr. Z playing. I think we would all be very interested to see it. Like Abakua said not because we don't believe that he can play but there has been so much build up and back and forth kind of stuff that there is a lot of anticipation.
I agree with you and JC on your two points let's not get personal, we are all here to share and have fun. At the same time, let's see what you got. We can critique if we are qualified to do so, but we can all offer encouragement, be supportive and maybe ask some questions or make suggestions if necessary.
BTW, JC I saw your video and it was off the hook! I have seen some other clips by Congaboard members and we have some really good players here. Dr. Z I am looking forward to seeing you play!

To my friend ABAKUA, and others who share his opinion:
I am by no means a professional musician, nor a professional
cinematographer or journalist. I never claimed I could capture everything Gerry has to offer in one 2-minute video. I can tell you now you will be disapointed in the video because I do not claim to be able to film his “advanced techniques”; specific hand positions, etc. I was merely offering to drive down to Houston and take a quick video of Gerry since everyone wants to see him play. It seemed I was in the best position to do that, since I will be there and I have a decent video camera. I’m not here to “prove” everything he says is true, I just want to show anyone interested that he is a great percussionist.

Respectfully, Huero

I understand there is a certain amount of anticipation, but remember I'm just a guy who likes to play congas and has a camera, and I won't be in Houston until the week between christmas and new years. let's not blow this out of proportion and make it the "superbowl". I just want to post a few pics and clips.

huero.

Use a tripod. Lock off a medium shot and let it roll. This is not brain surgery. Just do it.

Gerry
I'll be in Houston Sat, (Dec 29) Sun, (Dec 30) and Monday (Dec 31). I will bring my congas and my video and digital camera. Are you available, and can we practice at Bomani's place on San Jacinto?? And what's the best way to contact you?

Huero,

Thanks so much for sharing your pic of the very mysterious and intriguing Dr. Zaragenca!

Frankly, his picture definitely lives up to my imagination of how he looks prior to you showing us his picture. I knew that he'd be quite a character. And I definitely mean this in a positive, complimentary (artistic) way.

I had a strong gut feel that Gerry would be an original!

What??? The Dr. plays with comfort rims??? I'm finally conceding to Congamyk! I, too, am jumping over to the comfort rim bandwagon! Just kidding! LOL!

Blessed and Joyous New Year,
