I think what Samuel Torres is doing is fine. He's playing a beautiful song, that you really couldn't play in a band.

There are solo guitarists and solo pianists what they do is not called "musical masturbation" or really showing off, so why can't conga's have something similar?

The great thing about conga's are the range of sounds you can get from one drum, so when Samuel adds 7 drums he has a pretty good range of tones and volumes and rhythmic variety to be able to perform a composition without any accompaniment.

I do hear what your saying though Dave, and what you describe is fairly common, I'm just wondering if a new conga genre is emerging is all.

Congadelica- I like the accordion, but I was expecting more percussion! House music is all right- I still have it echoing in my brain after a week at the Burning Man Festival! Here's a pic of a drum bike parked near my camp. Jammed on it with some guys one day:

The acordian riff is from an old Colombian cumbia, cant remember the name of it, but I played it many many years ago in a former band.

Sorry, I couldn't finish listening to the track, I hated it. Big time.

Even Simon says:

Would have sounded a lot better if I had tuned it :D I highly recommend going. There are more artists per square foot than anywhere else for that week. I had one of the few live bands there, though. Hopefully see more next time. Peace

It's not even a percussion video, why put it in this thread?

It's a video of 3 photos playing a poor house track made exclusively with software. Madonna has tunes more relevant than this.

Come on people, for the sake of the forum can't we do better than this?

Ahhh yes, you can always trust Abaqua to find some amazing Anga gems.
Thanks Abaqua, I really get inspired when I see/hear Anga play.
Keep it up Bro.
