Hola Michael, hope all is well! I would say that both types of drums, wood and fiberglass are good. Now, it depends on the musical setting that you will be using them. If you will be playing in a folkloric setting, definitely go with wood drums. Wood drums are richer and warmer in sound. If you will be playing in a Salsa or Pop setting you can go with Fiberglass drums. Fiberglass tend to be louder and cut more through the band and amplification system. It's a matter of personal preference too. Regarding who makes the better drums. These days LP, Meinl, Pearl, J.C.R., Toca, all of them make good quality drums.

Hope this helps!
