OK you people Stateside and particularly those who know New York. Just bought the Roy Ayers Virgin Ubiquity 'Unreleased Recordings 1976-1981', and am enjoying Chano O'Ferral's Patato-influenced tumbous on the congas. In the sleeve notes Roy relates a story about how Chano gave up playing, sold his drums, and now drives taxis in New York. Over and above many percussionists on soul/funk recordings, in his work in the Ubiquity band he seems to me to have a lovely touch. Anyone got any memories of him?
