I have experienced Tinnitus for many years. i have found a good diet and 'NO" caffene can help the situation,
Is this what your talking about.
I have seen a scandinavian group is using "extremly high level" electromagnetic waves to alter brain structure , this apperltny cures tinnitus,
Im not sure this info is on the webpage i provided,I belive it "may" be authorized as a treatment in canada , but "NOT" in the usa. so good luck,

Do you know if some great players have whistles in their ear?
I went to a Doctor, I haven't got ear problem, just this litle whistle.
Do you protect your ear when you play (alone and in the group)?

Yes I have minor tinnitus. I've had it since I was young but it got slightly worse when I was in my late teens - no idea why. I'm hardly ever aware of it to be honest - it's very low-level and I can only hear it when in a totally silent environment. I don't play in any really loud environments (although having said that the drumer and keyboardist in my current band wear ear protection). When at a loud gig never stand to close to the speakers - I'm certainly conscious of not inflicting excess noise on the ears.

I've the same thing that you have.
I don't hear it when I play, but I hear when I'm in silent environment.
However when I protect my ears I can hear this low whistle.
It's sure that if I play in a Son group I don't wear ear protection.
But in the salsa, there are some timbales players who are very loud.
I hope that I could play for a long time, because I like playing.

Is ringing in the ears Tinnitus? If so, mine do that regularly and I do have some ear damage in one ear(which is what I listen with more than my good ear). from standing in front a bunch of Marshall amps with a guitar blaring in my ears, many congas ago. I hear it mostly when just sitting alone and not playing......"JC" Johnny Conga.....

Yes that's tinnitus, JC.

In answer to your question Cuidado, no I am not a professional player, just a keen amateur. I suppose I can count myself as semi-professional in that I get paid for my gigs. The band I'm currently in is a mix of pro and semi-pro players.

I paly congas 2 years ago.
I begin to learn bongo.
I play every time.
I'm eighteen, I'm in a university.
A day, I would like to live with the music.
For the moment I practice whith a great respect and with serious.
I must finish my studies.
Music is always present, I like Afro cuban percussion.

hi guys...yeah i have ringing in my ears as well, its not bad but its annoying when everything is silent, the ringing can come from a variety of sources, it can either be becouse you were exposed to loud music(this you can do nothing about), but its also coused by neck and shoulder tension, or biting error(your teeth dont bite straight), acupuncture is soppesed to help, if the proplems not in your ears, never tried though..but you really should visit a specialised ear doctor to see why your ears ring, couse it can be fixed...

Hello! I also have the same thing. When everything is silent I feel as if the ringing sound is really loud, but I can't hear it at all as long as I'm doing something. It's a short-gone tinnitus and I know that it's been caused by high volume. When I'm rehearsing with my band and doing gigs, I protect my ears all the time, so should you.

I'm not proffesional, 17 year old student, played congas, bongos and lots of other smaller percussion instruments for about one year.

If you don't protect your ears from exposal of really high volume it will get worse. Good luck!
