measuring? - playing surface or?

When measuring a conga do yu measure do yu use the playing surface to determin size or overralll width of the head and rim?

If you mean measuring the size of the head it the playing surface. ie top of the barrel where the skin covers it.

The measurement is usually the diameter of the playing surface
plus another 3/8". ie. the LP standard sizes
of 11" , 11.75 Conga, and 12.5' Tumba may measure
3/8'" less. ~ ISAAC ~
