This is something I found a while ago

http://djembelfaq.drums.org/v13f.htm

according to this, blood in urine can be a sign of a kidney malfunction.

Greeting, well from your brother Dr. Zaragemca, what happenned for long time to congeros in Cuba was in relation to the seat-down position which they were using to play the congas, in that position there is a lot of pressure concrentrated in the Sacro-Lumbar, and Spine places in the back, that pressure becomes more acute with the effort to play the congas,( but could happen with other sport using the same position), the body has its mechanism to compensate, but,if it is continued and intense, some capillares could break and produce some leaking,( untill the platelet would close it down).Since the kidney is the warehouse of liquified -waste, it would go there, coming out in the urine... to Kari-Matti,not necessarilly a kidney malfunction, but if you have an internal bleading (due to an injury), the kidney being a transit spot for the blood,it is a good place were the doctor could notice it.Also as percussionist if you are using wooden stools, the circulation is going to be more restrictive to that area (Sacro-Lumbar),increasing the pressure.
