this is a message that appeared on latinjazzegroup

Bad news,

In Herencia Latina Forum today there are many messages about pianist Alfredo
Rodriguez death. It happen yesterday in Bretonneau Hospital from Paris. He was
affected with cancer and he fight agaisnt it with courage but finally he passed
out. He was born in La Havana in 1936 and left Cuba in 1960 when he arrived to
New York. He started his career in NY where recorded for his very first time
with the Conjunto Sensacion which was a Rey Roig´s orchestra, sharing this firts
recording experience with Pete "Conde" Rodriguez. Finally in 1983 he moved to
Paris where he lived until yesterday when he left us.
It´s so sad because he was a wonderful piano player in afrocuban music, he
recorded with Rey Roig´s Conjunto Sensacion (Los Campeones del Ritmo), Willie
Rosario, Patato, Joe Cuba, Jesus Alemañy´s orchestra, and many others. He
recorded also with his own group many times in the 80s and 90s. One of his last
works was with cuban orchestra AcereKo in 2002, wich is a terrific recording,
Maleta con Nylon song is one of the biggest themes I´ve listened.

My deepest condolonces to his family and friends.

Tragic news. At least he has gone to a better place now, and is no longer suffering from that dreaded decease.

Tommorrow night, our band has a gig at Sydneys institution for live music, a jazz club called The Basement.
Two of the tunes we do is are own arrangement of the rumba guaguanco "Cuba Linda" and also a version of "Drume Negrita" by Alfredo Rodriguez as he recorded in his CD by the same title as the song.
We go from the rumba into a timba tune.

We will extend the rumba section and in the timba section the piano solo will also be extended and played in dedication and honour to this man who left countless music for future generations.

Let he be remembered for how he lived rather than how he died.

Ache.
