Hi Abakua,
your pics arenice.
I have one question for you or two.
I've seen that you hva several LP Congas.
What do you should in the large choice of LP wood (congas)?
I've one matador and two aspire. I would like to complete my set with two other congas. The aspire are not in "a good shape".
Secondly, what is the stand that you us e in the gig?
Thanks
saludos

Gracias Cuidado,

yes, I use and reccomend LP products, for your question regarding the choice of LP wooden congas, I firmly believe the Classics are as good as any, and the set to which most congas are based upon and compared to.

Classics, fantastic drums, good weight, great body and sound.

Giovanni series - fantastic drums, slightly heavier than the Classics, larger lugs etc also, again great sounds and good body.

40th Anniversary series - essentially dressed up Classics with an added attachement option for a clamp to hold a bell or tambourine off the lug, but the exact same drum as a Classic.

Giovanni Hidalgo Palladium series - top of the line drums, heavy as fuk! Fantastic unbelievable sound, great projection and body.

All the above are drums to last you a lifetime, I dont like the fibreglass congas, dont like their overtones and lack of warm, crisp tones.

For the Classics I use one of my set of stands, for the Palladiums, I use the collapsible cradles..

In your case, I would suggest you either try to sell your congas privately ansd use that money and a little more on top and upgrade to a complete matching set of high quality LP drums. Or see if your drum store can do you a good trade in deal with financial adjustment their way.... Keep us posted hermano.

See below for the pics.. :)

For the Palladiums, I use the LP Collapsible cradle stands, as seen below. Though for the Super Tumba, I chopped around 4cm off the legs so it lowered the drum as on its widest setting it was still way to high over the other 2 drums.

Hi Abakua,
thanks a lot for your answer. Do you often play in standing position?
You have a great collection af wood congas. Your guiro seem to be very good.
In an other post, I've said that: maybe for my studies I can go the next year in Australia. It would be nice to meet a conga player like you. It seems that you are a great passionate player. I can see this in your answer.

Siento la conga como una razon de existir.

Saludos

No problem Cuidado!

Yes, I always play standing. The last time I played seated was in 1995 I think. Since then I have always used stands for any gig I do.

I also have a very rare 28" tall fibreglass LP 'Original' quinto which I have in Intensive Care hehehe, been reparing it as its been belted around a few times in its many years, once repaired I will keep it for rumba purposes only.

If you like my guiro's make sure to check out THIS THREAD HERE! (click here)

For sure man, if you are heading to Sydney let me know.

Hi,
your Pic is nice, JC. It's very difficult to play on a chair. I don't have stand anw I've tried to play congas when they are on a chair, it's impossible (for me) :D .

Abakua, I've never seen the fantastic toopic of your Guiro.
Than ks for the advices. I would like to try to make my own Guiro but I don't know where I can find a gourd like this.

I've one Lp plastic Guiro, and it's not the same thing than the wood. Great "building".

Hasta pronto.

Saludos, when the Tumbadora was finally accepted into the Conjunto,(in Cuba, 1930's),the congero would play it in a seated position, but then several singers were also playing the instrument, so at that point they were trying to elevate it and that way they could be playing and singing at the same time.Dr. Zaragemca
