Word!

Someone shoot me with a tranquiliser gun!! Thats how excited I am!!!!

My all time top favourite conguero master, Miguel 'Anga' Diaz is coming to Sydney with 'Omar Sosa Trio' in Feb 2006!

OMAR SOSA TRIO (Cuba)

Omar Sosa (Piano) Anga Diaz (Percussion) Childo Tomas (Bass)

"Sosa is a genius, one of the truly illuminated minds of world jazz” (Billboard)

Nominated for 2005 Latin Jazz Album of the Year, Cuba’s Omar Sosa brilliantly blends the freedom of jazz with Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms, hip hop and electronica to create some of the most irresistible music on this planet. Omar has been described not only as the new king of Cuban jazz but a genius on the stage of contemporary world music. His group features Miguel ‘Anga’ Diaz – Cuban master percussionist and a noted band leader in his own right – who has played with both the Buena Vista Social Club and the Afro-Cuban All Stars. Completing this spellbinding trio is Mozambique bass player, Childo Tomas. A limited number of early bird tickets are now on sale for the Sydney and Melbourne dates.

Fri 24th Feb - The Basement, Sydney

This is at the same prestigious club / jazz bar / institute of live music where I have played with my bands many many times over the years.
We are already on the Guest list! I cannot farkin wait!!!

This man is my Conga idol, someone I have studied and looked up to for over 15 yrs. I had the opportunity several years ago to take some private tuition with one of his finest students while they were in Sydney, but nothing will compare to having the opportunity to meet Anga and see him perform live.

We have another local great Cuban conguero which is a great friend of mine, he arrived here like 10 years ago via Amsterdam who is long time friends with Anga, I can quite confidently say we will be hooking up for BBQ's, jamming etc with Anga like we did with my good friends from Cubanismo! ( As seen in THIS THREAD (click here) ) And yes, I will have my camera with me again!!

What you guys need to understand, is that here, we rarely have the opportunity to see internationally famous artists of this calibre, sure there are many many great musicians here, but to see a legendary figure of percussion like Anga, does not happen everyday, we cannot simply go down to the local club and check out Giovanni, Daniel Ponce, Bobby Allende, Ritchie Flores etc etc etc We never grew up seeing Ray Barreto, Mongo, Tata etc.. Sure, we've seen em on videos, read their articles, heard and studied/devoured all their recordings, but in the flesh, no.

Im am eagerly anticipating his arrival and cannot wait to sit down with my boys and rumbiar all night with Anga!

-Apologies for my rambling, Im just fukin excited! :D  :p

Alafia CaptainQuinto y Abures!

I share your excitement Abakua! To be able to be in the presence of an idol of a long time is quite rewarding! I know that you will enjoy it and it will be a memorable occassion, especially to sit down with him in a relaxed environment (Barbeque), talk shop and jam! Close up and Personal!

That is a great opportunity! I'm glad for you hermano Abakua, as we all are in this forum I'm sure!

Many blessings!

Oh yeah! See you Saturday Cap'n Q! We should have a blast!

Odabo!

Vaya Abakua,
Great news bruuuuuder... Here in Seattle we don't opportunities like that either... I think it's safe to say the only two states in the entire USA that might have the opportunity are NYC and Florida. All the rest of us... eh...

Last night I visited my friends at a local club; and an artist who I am not sure you all are familiar with was there doing his own show on the mainstage... After his show he came up and sat in with us; that for me was great! Although I must say it won't be as great as hangin with a kat like Anga...

The artists name is Charlie Hunter

Have fun bro! Can't wait to see the pics!

Ivan

Hey Ivan! I for one think that hangin' with Charlie would be very cool!

Fusion is way up there on my list of music to listen to.

His project with "Garage a Trois" has some really good offerings. Fans should also check
out Stanton Moore and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Good Stuff!

Peace!

Doubt that I'll get to hang with them though!

Don't worry Onile ... I'll get to bed in time to rest up for our Rumba!

Hey Captainquinto, OZOMATLI are a great bunch of guys. They've been to Syndey several times over the last few years and we've hung out every time, if you get the chance say hello to them from the guys of SON VENENO from Sydney.
