Well, after thinking many times I was going to get to play my congas with other musicians and something always preventing it, it happened last night. Oh, Ive just messed around with a friend of mine, but never played a whole song.
A couple of friends came over last night, who play guitars, and we were listening to a country song that used congas in it and they wanted to try it with me on regular drums of course.
I told them that I could pull out one of my congas and play like that guy on the record. Well, I did and it sounded pretty darn good and now I'm hooked. It was only tumbao, but it was a whole song none-the-less and the boys said that it sounded really good.
Just want to share this with you guys and girls.

Informal jam sessions are so cool. Sometimes it gets twisted around to real torture when it gets too formal. Take your good first experience with you and keep it fun, no matter how hard any band may try to suck the fun out. More practice is the best way, I think...then it just flows out.

Oh man!! The boys in the band, or what is the beginning of a band, want to do one whole set of songs using the congas. I'm telling them "Naw", but all the time I'm thinking , "YES, YES". You know the old hard to get trick. HAHA:laugh:

That's fantastic! The same thing happened to me last night...unless it was because they didn't like my bass playing :laugh: ! It's cool when the conga gets appreciated for its contribution. In this song, we have to use a drum machine (drummer can't make it to tonight's gig) and the boys still think the congas add more than the bass. It's a pop/rock style Christian contemporary song, so bass would be the usual thing.

Afterall, what is music if not fun. The fact of the matter is that there are musicians who are extremely serious with what they do, but for newbies, there needs to be patience and lots of encouragement!
