Chembo has been an integral part of the New York
Salsa and Latin Jazz scene for several decades!
He started working at a real young age. Some of the
groups he's been with and still appears with are
Larry Harlow, Tito Allen, Chris Washburne & the Syotis Band (Chembo performs every week with them),
Hilton Ruiz, Chico Freeman & Guataca, The Bronx Horns,
Andrea Brachfeld, Bobby Rodriguez y la Compania,
Ray Vega, Bobby Sanabria, Willie Martinez and of
course his recent releases as a leader.
He's finally getting the credit he deserves for all the hard work he's put into his craft.

He's good people; very humble and generous... Isaac introduced me to him back when I visited NYC... I should post the picture of us if I can find it... Honenslty, I prefer seeing him live than the CD he released.
From what I heard - he's a busy man in NYC... Which says a lot abpit him as a professional musician...
To say the least he's a great player.

In my humble opinion:
His "Portraits in Rhythm" was among the best releases in 2004.

Hello congueros,
I've seen Chembo perform a few times mostly at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe here in NYC. This cat hasmajor chops and is one heck of a nice guy. His debut CD, Portrait in Rythms, is one of my favorites. I believe he has a new CD coming out soon of which he joined forces with Andrea Brachfeld also featuring Hilton Ruiz, Steve Turre, and Pedro Martinez. You should check his web site at: http://www.chembocorniel.com
