I'm in the market for a new toy and I'm considering getting a cajon. I've only had the chance to play a couple of cajons at a guitar center, LP and a Mienl I believe, niether of which I was too incredibly impressed with. Anyone of you guys play cajon and can recomend a couple of makers to look into? Considering fatcongas, has anyone played one?

I've been playing a Schalloch cajon for a while now. I like it a lot, it's not too boomy like some I've played. Nice crisp slaps as well as a good, solid bass tone. The snare can be adjusted too. It's added a whole new sound to my performance repertoire and was about half the price of some I've seen.

cheers!

Pavlo,

If you're up for it-- there's a thread here on how to build one. Cheap. Pretty easy.

My friend Marshall makes and sells them. They're similar to FatCongas.

What kind of music do you want to play. By far fat cajon has the best cajons. There are so many different types of cajons.

I love the Fat Conga CJST-String Cajón™. The best model has a padded seat, amazing bass, crisp slaps, snare adjustment and special "palitos claps" built into the top corners. It has a "woodier" non-snare effect on the back side making it 2 cajons in one. All around this was easily the best sounding cajon I tried. It's more expensive compared to some models but you will own it a lifetime and the extra $100 is well worth it for a lifetime of the best tones and workmanship.

Hey Mike,
The FC cajon looks great and I'm sure sounds great too. I probably would've spent the extra on one of these but I don't think anyone in Australia sells them.

well after reading through the cajon building posts on here and on other sites I have decided to give it a try. I will take pics as the project progresses and post them when I'm done, wish me luck.
