Hello,

Where can I find used congas?

It occurred to me that new drums are being sold every day so the number of drums around should be constantly increasing and yet, I rarely see used drums for sale.

If there is a used drum but it needs a new head, how much would it be worth? There is one at a local drum shop, it's old, I think it's mahogany, and looks fairly decent but not real high end and the head it shot. According to my drum teacher, it was made to look like a cuban style drum but the metal bands are just decorative.

Internet is good for used drums, problem is you can't play them first, so do your research if you're buying from ebay. Check your local craigslist too, those you can go play before you buy. Drums with busted heads are usually a good find, because the seller usually prices them less than they are worth. Heads can be bought for anywhere from $10 used to $75 for some top quality skins, your teacher can probably show you how to tuck them. Tell us what you are after and we can help you look.
