Hi There , Do you know where I can find some Repair Info on fixing old drums. I have a couple of old drums one generic Conga and one old Valje Tumba. . I'm looking for a Book -Video, or Web site like this that might have a repair section . Something that will show the proper methods of removing the old Glue in seperated joints . How to make Good Heavy duty band clamps . Plus the proper types of Glues , stains and finishes to use etc. etc. . I know I can send the Valje in to Ralph Flores the son of the man who made the Valje's , Tom Flores . I can't afford to do that so I really need to learn the Proper repair techniques so that I can do it myself. Any Help or ideas would be Greatly apreaciated . Thanks a lot , Don - Gr8toys@pacbell.net

Valjay,

Have you searched the forum threads? There's some incredible pro craftsmen brothers here who have intense repair chops.

Yes, Repair chops, nice...

Where do you live Valjay?

If youre in the bay area, bring your tubs to the BBQ this next Sunday in Oakland - see search the thread "BBQ"

We'll hook you up.

For me, I love to see an old instrument come back to life with clean repairs. Its so cool to me, to bring one of these tubs back into the circle of players.

With quality repairs, it will most likely be played long after we are gone. What an easy way to honor Chango. :D

Contact Ralph. the son of the maker of Valje.

He is a nice guy, I have a set of bongos on order with him.

I got every impression from him that he would be willing to give you advice on the phone, or through email.
