First time asked to play a New Year's gig. What do you gigging pros charge for that night?

Dont know what its like in your town, but here, new years gigs are payed at double the standard rate minimum.
Minimum standard gig for someone who is somewhat established in the scene is $130 - $150 for 2-3 set gig.
So New Years pays minimum of $300.
Having said that though, new years gigs are accepted to the highest bidder!
My new years booking with one of the bands I play in (this one is a 9 piece latin jazz/funk band) is paying $600 per musician, doing 5 sets. First 2 of dinner/drinks music and 3 of the hardcore stuff. Normally you can hook up a double header and end up doing 2 or more gigs on new years eve, plus after parties etc, usually can really clean up in you are 'in' the scene.

Out in my neck of the woods, $500 is the base to start negotiating from, in otherwords giggin' musicians don't leave the house on New Years for less than this to start. You've got to figure that you are leaving your family for the evening and working, so compensation must make it worth it Abure CongaTick!

I did a New Years gig around 7 years ago for $600, we were fed and enjoyed the evening. This was a gig for all the "blue hairs" (elderly tourists).

Nice pay, if you can get it. Think our area (near Philly) is a little tighter with the gelt. Greatly appreciae the guidelines, guys.

It's about double the usual rate e.g. $300 for a NYE gig.

$300-$350....is fair, and low depending on how long the gig is but, I wouldn't leave the house for less than 3 bills...

In the bay area, its two to three times the normal rate, from what ive seen.

For me, it depends on how much you want to work with them in the future.

I would say $ 400 bills is more like it, as an average.
that's the least I will go for 3 hours and hoping not to travel far. Now days half of that can go in gas.
If you are true pro and with the right band from a thou and up, with green room and accommodations.

Man, 1999 cross over to 2000 was hektik here.
Musician going rate was up to 5 times or more what it normally is.

Bands and Venues were outbidding each other to score the band or musician, it was great!

I didnt accept or confirm an offer till I had the one I believed to be the best.

Ended up scoring a 2 week trip to New Caledonia (small tropical island in the sth pacific ocean) staying at Le Meridien 5 star resort, all expenses paid etc. Living large.

We were contracted to play 2 lunch time gigs on Christmas eve and Christmas day, then a dinner gig for Christmas night.
Then new years eve.
That was paying $3000 each upon copmpletion of the 2 weeks.
While there I scored the band a gig at the casino and we got an extra $300 each. :cool:
