Here we have it...

This is one of the nicest restoration projects ive done. This old beauty is one sweet sounding, and a very clean drum.

This Gon Bops Mahogany Requinto is Viiintaaage! Most likely late 1950's! (see the 90 degree sideplates with knocked off corners and the smooth bands)

This drum must never have been played, as the hardware is very nice. It has all the original bands as well.

I put a sweet 'slappy skins' folkloric skin on it, and it is amazingly cool played with another quinto in a Rumba setting.

It is also very versatile for its size (9.5".) You can play it as a quinto and a requinto - it has a wide sonic range for a requinto.

The Mahogany overtones are so dang nice... I cant find a material that sounds like Mahogany. Im not into cutting any more of the tree, so it's very nice to put this back into our circle of players.

I hope it will be played, or at least preserved for some future player to enjoy.

This is also an investment at $400. No more Mahogany in the future will drive its value up over time.

Ill post pics later today.

have fun,

Tony

Yes, it is round and without cracks, and it has all the original bands.

Looks great, nice work. $400 seems quite reasonable to me. Not in the market though.

Just out of curiosity do you have any "before" pictures?

That's a sweet lookin drum. Alas, I am also not in the market as I already have some GonBops like this. I don't think my side plates are rounded though, I'll have to look again. Nice job on the refinish.

Its back! Actually never left.

I saved it for months and then found Batzong a requinto Mariano, the one he actually was looking for, so off it goes to Guadalupe, and this 50's beauty is up for sale, again.

This is one nice requinto...

Am I too Late?
I want it!
It'd go real well with my Sol set.

Oh, and Tony, you don't have to ship it!
I'll pick it up on my West Coast tour this summer!

Dave
