Here we have it...
This is one of the nicest restoration projects ive done. This old beauty is one sweet sounding, and a very clean drum.
This Gon Bops Mahogany Requinto is Viiintaaage! Most likely late 1950's! (see the 90 degree sideplates with knocked off corners and the smooth bands)
This drum must never have been played, as the hardware is very nice. It has all the original bands as well.
I put a sweet 'slappy skins' folkloric skin on it, and it is amazingly cool played with another quinto in a Rumba setting.
It is also very versatile for its size (9.5".) You can play it as a quinto and a requinto - it has a wide sonic range for a requinto.
The Mahogany overtones are so dang nice... I cant find a material that sounds like Mahogany. Im not into cutting any more of the tree, so it's very nice to put this back into our circle of players.
I hope it will be played, or at least preserved for some future player to enjoy.
This is also an investment at $400. No more Mahogany in the future will drive its value up over time.
Ill post pics later today.
have fun,
Tony
