Hey folks,
I had posted the following to the video only thread under open discussion and attached a link to a YouTube movie showing Columbia Del Puerto in a performance in Cuba.
"Does anyone here know if there are recordings made available here in the U.S. on the group Columbia Del Puerto? These guys are insanely good. Thanks!"

they are insanely good. the only recordings i can think of offhand are from the "Real Rumba" compilation on CoraSon, reissued as "La rumba está buena" - I think they have three smokin tracks on there.

guarachon63,
Thanks for the reply. I already have Real Cuban Rumba and it smokes! That is how I learned of the group. The quintero on the tracks Roncona and Malanga is out of this world! I was hoping to find more of their recordings.

Columbia del Puerto are no joke. They have the columbia down to a science. I emailed John Santos a while ago, and asked him whether he had heard of any other recordings by CDP. He said no, the "Real Rumba" was the only one.

Abakua/Ralph,
Yes, I caught those two videos on youtube which are great. It's a shame that there aren't more recordings made by this group, thanks for the info. I'm sure you can find recordings by this group out in Cuba.
Personally, I think rumba columbia is a rythm that I can't imagine listening to and remaining calm. It's one of those rythms that gets deep inside your body and soul. As a kid growing up in the Bronx I can still hear the rumberos out in Orchard Beach jamming rumba columbia. It never ceased to amaze me how people who would walk by and then had to stop and move to those complex beats.

Sadly, that's not the case at all. You can't even find "Real Rumba" (the CD) there. All this stuff is very poorly documented, about all we have left are these amateur videos and their occasional appearance in better-produced projects such as "La Rumba y el Tambor."
