Sandy Perez - Afro-Cuban Percussion Workshop

‘Sandy’ Ramon Perez formerly of the Cuban percussion group Afro Cuba De Matanzas will be holding an ongoing percussion workshop featuring folkloric Cuban rhythms at the African American Art and Cultural Center in San Francisco.

Location: 762 Fulton Street, dance studio “B”, San Francisco

Time: 8:00-10:00 p.m. Thursdays

Price: $20.00

Description: Students will learn authentic Afro-Cuban folkloric rhythms for conga drums. Some rhythms to be explored will include, guaguanco, palo
bembe, abakua, arara, rumba columbia and others.

Students will be required to bring their own conga drum to the class.
Parking is available in the center’s parking lot.

Ramon "Sandy" Garcia Perez, a master Batalero / Congero, and principal/lead percussionist for 12 years with Grupo Afro Cuba de Matanzas, is recognized the world over for his expertise as a percussionist and instructor. Sandy Perez, who is a direct descendant from the legendary Villamil family, brings a wealth of knowledge while continuing the legacy of Afro-Cuban folklore from the cradle of African Culture in Cuba - Matanzas.

Is this close to where you live? Looks like a good solution, or part of a solution to the housemate - no drumming problem.

Hot stuff! I saw Sandy at Issac Delgado's show on Saturday. I'll try to make it up there next week. Thanks for hooking this up!

Hey nice photos, that was a fun show. Carlos Aldama was one of the singers and even danced a little
Yambu.
I hope to see you at Sandy's class sometime. We had 6 students for the first class and it is looking like 8-9
for the second class.

Are there enough drums & clave, etc. to go around? I'm thinking I want to work on clave, cata & bells and I'd like to BART up there and so I will be traveling light. What rhythms are you working on for next week? Peace
