Though these boards are dedicated to percussion, I can’t help but comment on the unfolding disaster in Haiti, as a result of the earthquake.

The musicians and percussionists of Haiti are major links in the culture of the African diaspora in the Americas.
The survival of the African percussive traditions, and their eventual evolution into a uniquely Haitian musical culture, demonstrate a strength of human spirit that is much to be admired.

The contributions of Haitians can be found in many a discussion and/or video here at CongaPlace.

I must admit to being moved to tears, as I viewed images/ video from Port au Prince this morning.

I won’t go into a rant about what we should all do to help…that’s all over the news.

If you can see in your heart to help

….just do it

Thanks for bringing this up Joseph. My wife and I spent 2 years in Haiti and are currently in the process of adopting 2 kids from there. We were just in Port au Prince visiting the kids in October. This whole thing is near to our hearts. Thankfully the kids are safe but the orphanage is in need of monetary funds to buy food and water. Anything you guys can do would be helpful. The kids and staff have been sleeping outside for fear of an aftershock causing the house to collapse. Anything folks can do would be helpful. Feel free to send me a pm if you want more info. The orphanage will provide aid to the kids, the birthparents, and the neighboring community.

And your right, the music in Haiti has yet to be tapped to its fullest potential. Check out Marcus Schwartz and the Haitian voodoo jazz group mozayik. They rock.

My deepest feelings go to the Haitians.
It is sad to read about all the human tragedies in the news.
I pray for all people in Haiti that their suffering might go
away as soon as possible and the wounds in body and souled
be healed.

Please do donate as much as you can to relieve the famine and the suffering!
