Also, it is very different in my opinion from the original, which I think is obvious to anyone who listens to both versions. It is molded in the typical Miles davis form of skeletal, Bop phrasing, but the tune is not a Bop tune....miles rarely if ever played or recorded for that matter another Composer's melody straight, or correctly if you will. And this version seems to me to be what JC's version is departing liberally from here, where the opening melodic statement has a more choppy, BeBop feel than the more lyrical (singing) feeling of Shorter's post Bop original. I prefer the original.
