Anyone know of any weekly public rumbas besides central park and other Latin music venues where I can be sure to catch some entertainment, if I happen to go to New York on the spur of the moment? Jorge recommended a rumba at a club last summer, when I came up to catch the rumba in Central Park, but was only up for that day.

As of 3 weeks ago, we are into our second year of weekly Midnight Rumbas every Thursday night at the Zinc Bar, 82 W 3rd St, between Thompson and Sullivan Streets. Great modern Afrocuban rumba, with frequent outstanding guest artists sitting (or singing) in with us from all over the world. $10 cover, we start at midnight and end at 1:30, one set.

Also, there is a rumba in Central Park every Sunday when the weather is nice. Usually starts around 4 or 5 and goes til 10, generally on the benches by the lake at the 72nd St level.

If you are coming to NYC PM me ahead of time and I can give you details.
