The Conga student's Consumer report

Time for us students to start sharing what you do in your lessons. The idea here is to share as to expose/expect from a typical lesson. Don't be shy, you might help uncover a bad teacher that is taking advantage of someones time and money, or find good teachers! Simply finding a teacher is not good enough, you should be able know who or what is good/bad.

Johnny Conga

Florida base, but offers online classes to world wide students of the drum.

Price: excellent value! For the price of a typical 45min lesson you get an extra 45min. You pay for blocks of lessons.

Last lesson: warm up with rudiments. Learned Mongo Santamaria's 6/8, two different variations. Learned Bolero, two advance variations! Studied/listen to Mongo SantaMaria's Afro blue together. Gave me homework to listen to, and how to listen/study it.

My tip to another student: When taking lessons with Johnny it is to your advantage to clearly tell him what your into and what direction you want to go (Latin Jazz, better technique, Learning to play three drums, Giovanni style, Mongo's style, rumba). If you don't have a clear target, all he can teach you is technique, which we all need to build our foundation, but like Johnny says, it's about the music.
