Your welcome and thank you. I have a friend here in St Louis who make ceramic goblet drums(dumbeks or darbukas?), anyway, they are very nice drums and he has given me a few which I play on with some groups. I am nowhere near the player you are(a turtle could play better rolls than me), but it is clips like that as well as others that keep me pushing to improve. Also, seeing others play gives a little insight on technique. Thanks again! Peace

bdrbongo do you have rumba in STL? I'm in KC.
Yoni, your video camera set-up is excellent for this use. When I create a video with my digital camera, it comes out to 8 megs and is too big to post. Can you tell us how you're set up? What about resolution settings do you use?

Congamyk, I confess I'm a computer neanderthal, blessed with a girlfriend who's a computer/video wiz. She did all the settings and transferred it to the computer, and should know those particulars you ask of. The only thing she didn't set up was the shot itself - I did that and next time will hopefully do it better and under her guidance, as far as lighting, etc.
I go out to a gig soon and she's not back yet, but as soon as I have the answers for you I'll post them!

Tell me, how much of that was doubles (that we discussed earlier) finger ruffs etc. and can you apply it all to quinto?

WOW!! What a really a GREAT solo!!! Your rolls are just smokin,' did you study Zarb or some South Indian technique? Now where did you get that gigantic darbuka?

Thanks to all else, too. I play mainly for just the joy of the sounds, but this is some real fine icing on the cake. Wow.
Berimbau, that's a big darbouka but a small Bar Rashi. I have some younger brothers who'd make that drum look almost normal size. Got it in an ethnic instrument shop called Chitori in South Tel Aviv. Bought another some months later when I could, and lucky I was able to 'cause there weren't many and they're all gone. No replacement heads available here either in that size. First one broke and I mounted a goatskin on it instead, pictured in other posts of mine (with light in it). This plastic head one has a small tear under the rim and the sound is going dead, as you can hear it doesn't ring much, so I may put on another natural skin when it really goes...
Never studied tabla but one roll I did here, just before the 2nd rhythm, may be similar to a tabla roll. Learned it from 2 great Turkish bros, Ahmet and Levent, real masters of that technique. But most of the rolls here are open double stroke hand rolls - not fingers - like how some players do them on congas. I haven't yet seen/heard anyone else doing them on darbouka.
I also do them on congas, had a clip here of a conga solo with a few, but had CongaMan remove it and another clip 'cause I didn't like them anymore and want to put up new stuff instead
Finger techniques on quinto and congas? Why not? In this clip I only do 2 or 3 techniques, but I'm not a big traditionalist and often mix up all kinds of rolls on any kind of drum, or other surface that falls prey to my itchy hands and fingers. Heh, heh... :angry:

Congamyk, both my lady and I have been rushing around the last couple days and she didn't get a chance yet to check the video resolution numbers for you. But she will and soon as she does I'll post them. Meantime she tells me to explain that her computer is a Macintosh and she uses final cut pro and export format MP4... whatever that means.

A few days ago I did a 2 minute clip on congas, sent it to congaplace but don't know if the site got it. Am near Haifa and internet connection here is spotty lately. Am not quite as in shape right now with the doubles on conga, been more on darbouka the past few years. But the clip came out ok. We'll see if they get it and if they put it up. Resolution wasn't super and maybe 2 minutes is too heavy for the site. If it doesn't come up I'll do a shorter and better clip soon as I can.
With work the doubles become as effortless as they look, moreso than with singles for me by now. Thanks again and keep jamming,
