This is really sad to hear. I've never met "Anga" or seen him perform live but I do have some of his music and his video, Angamania!. Just a few days ago I was watching this video and was just completely mesmerized by his melodic Guaguanco using five congas. It was pure magic.

During both the performance and interview segments you could clearly see that he was very passionate about his music and truly loved what he did. My condolences to his family and close friends.

P.S.-I'm sure he's up there with the past masters tuning all five of his congas.
One slap at a time...

I'm in schock! Very sad to hear about this. Definitely he is among some of my favorites tumbadores. Thankfully I did have the opportunity to met and study some with him during Afrocubanismo 1996 in Banff, Canada. A down to earth cat, always willing to share openly his knowledge on the tumbadora. He along with Tata, Changuito, Vizcaino and Giovanni were taking tumbadora playing into the next century.

Que Dios lo tenga en la gloria!

I had never heard of anga until I read abakua's posts on him visiting australia. and for some reason, that influenced me enough to research his material, it influenced me enough to dream of studying with him one day. i was in awe of him.
that was the effect just a few passionate and enthusiastic posts and photographs of him had upon me, so I can imagine the effect the man himself had upon those who met him.

take care anga.

Like so many others, I can´t believe that Anga has passed away.

I had the honour to see him live with the Afro-Cuban All-Stars a couple of years ago. His brilliant artistic output and incredible vitality won´t be forgotten.

Geniuses like him will ALWAYS be remembered.

I have received confirmed reports that he passed away in his home as a result of a heart attack. One of his students found his motionless body. Funeral service was held on Friday, newspapers report his ashes are to be returned to Cuba

If I am devestated and in tears about the news from here, imagine how his student must have felt walking into the room to find him on the floor.

How horrible he had to go this way.

Your spirit will live on forever.

Thanks for updating us on the circumstances of his passing. It's still hard to believe Anga is no longer with us. May he always rest in peace.

A la rumba yo no voy ma, sin Anga. Estara con migo en cada golpe, cada sentimiento manana.

As I was discussing with my old friend Egui Castrillo earlier via email, "el mundo de la parcusion esta de luto por un gran amigo"

ie "The percussion world is in mourning over the loss of a great friend."
