I've also been looking at adding a cymbal or two to my hand-percussion setup. I haven't yet used any of these, but I have found the following as being LISTED for use with the hands, either specifically, or "suitably". I mention them only as POSSIBILITIES that can be explored, but I myself have yet to hear any of them:
--Sabian AAX El Sabor Picante (16" crash, 18" crash)
--Sabian HHX Evolution 17" "Effeks" crash
--Zildjian FX Azuka Latin Hand & Stick (15" crash, 15"crash w/rivets, 18" crash)
--Meinl Candela (10" splash, 14" crash, 16" crash, 18" crash/ride, 14" "jinglebell")
--Istanbul Hand & Stick (12" crash, 15" ride)
I have also spoken to a cymbal dealer, and he thought that just about any ultra-thin or paper-thin would do.
All THAT being said... I have smacked a few regular drumset cymbals (not the above ones) at a local drum shop, and my opinion was:
1)You just about can't get any sound at all out of some drumset cymbals if you hit with your hand
2)Some had quite a bit of sound, but if you hit them with your hand, the sustain can be wayyyyy too long (but probably not bad at all if you use a drumstick tip)
I think the only way to REALLY tell what will or won't work, would be to buy, try, and sell back off what doesn't work great. BUT that can be EXPENSIVE!
So, perhaps others here might be able to give recommendations based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE in order to help the rest of us narrow down the choices??
