Look how dang thick those staves are. Im sure that is in part why they are heavy, and have such good sustain, with shitty skins.

I dont think this is Mahogany. It looks like mahogany, but is much harder. It also has Oak like grains (you can see on the pic of the inside). I think its some exotic from Central Africa - the closest source. Or perhaps some European oak ive never seen.

I wonder when i will get to reskin these tubs to find their true voice :laugh:

you saved me the trouble of resizing this pic for the post. i see you picked it up from tony.

no more questions as to the material i guess. the drum next to the exposed drum shows a good close up of the tuning rod and rim. not even close to zim gar. better pic at the beginning of this thread or at
