Vaya Hermano Caballoballo!
Como esta familia?

Out here it's picking up as well, last week I had four gigs, 3 corporate gigs with trios and 1 Latin Jazz steady that I have on Wednesdays. I worked last night with another trio (two guitars and congas) for "Petsmart" the pet food store. The day of the Superbowl, since it was held out here in AZ, I played a brunch corporate gig for "Coca-Cola" out at the Princess Resort and got to see Evander Hollyfield.

I'm glad to hear that the scene is picking up for you hermano Caballoballo, I hope that it continues! Adelante!

Suave!

Philly folkloric scene very limited as always-- private parties mostly. Beyond that in the city, alternative/indie rock/screaming/angst-ridden singer-songwriter duos/smash-n- thrash/metal with the coccasional folk-soul-blues singer dominates as the happening thing. Suburban bars and clubs host mostly classic rock. I used to play in a lot of burb bars in rock groups---not so much lately. Now, sit-in weekly with straight ahead jazz group, and was invited into a touring Chicago tribute band. I know none of this rates high with the traditional folkloricos, but.... it is what it is. ???

Not to get political, but I gigged more when the democrats where in. Also the DJ's are more in now than before, peoples idea of live music also has changed. But i still get my share; just have to be more creative going about it.

Well its times like these when musicians need to get innovative and develope better "negotiation" skills with club owners and dont let them necessarily dictate how it goes down....as far as Im concerned musicians are NOT united in this country...when I was growing up in the Bronx we actually would "strike" on a club, for better treatment and better monies...and confront "scab musicians" for trying to take the gig behind our backs...for less money or for other reasons...so where are these type of musicians today who take responsibility for what they do and stop trying to get a 'free' ride with somebody...like some do...so they dont have to be responsible for handling "their business".....and just show up to get a pay day....?....didn't wannago there but i did...Johnny Conga.... ???

I remember when my Dad (he played the Cuban Tres & The Ampeg upright Baby Bass ) was a member of the Musician Union & at those times if you were not a member you would not play anywhere. They controled the gig scene, nowadays I do not think the union exist any more. Depending on the instrument that you played was your salary.
