Skin Supplier List

Skin Supplier List (last updated March 2, 2011)

There are no doubt other suppliers of which I'm not aware (esp. outside the US), so please send me the info and I'll add it to the list, as well as edits for what you see here. Also, I'm not breaking this down into mounted and un-mounted skins - some of these suppliers may sell pre-mounted skins at standard sizes, but mounting flat skins yourself is very do-able and so I'm not including that for now. Also not including info for widely available commercial skins (LP, Pearl, etc.) - they're easy enough for you to find. This list is purposely opinion-free, though I'm sure we'd all love everyone's feedback in the forum.

well done much needed post I am fed up of people charging $100 a skin when you can get them direct for $25.BillConfer at Hereford bi products very helpful will provide thickness of 10000
to 80 000 of an inch all perfect measured with micrometer
skins are tough and I have been opting for thinner than normal
but I play a very light style using bougarabou technique

I notice buffalo is on that list ... it is a very good skin that might work well on conga drums. I've a big pow wow drum that has it, and it has a fantastic tone (when it is not cold).

I'm putting a plug in here for Tony Sternaud from Napa. His congaplace.com handle is blango.

I just got 3 steer skins from him, quinto, conga, tumba. They all have a great thickness, even throughout, good color and texture.

Best of all Tony picks them out from the dealer, he's an experienced player, and he knows what to look for. Then he can meet you and give you the skins in person, well at least if your in the Bay Area. Thats the deal I got.

It's very cool to have personal service like that. His prices are great and you save on shipping and handling from other suppliers. For guys in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tony is your man for skins.

I'm going to second that comment from Bongosnotbombs about blango, Tony Sternard at Slapskins. I din't get mines hand delivered like him since I'm in the east coast but I'm more than happy with my purchase. You got another happy customer my brother. Peace

NEWS ALERT FOR ALL PERCUSSIONISTS AND ANYONE WHO MAKES USE OF COWHIDE OR EATS BEEF!
I have just witnessed some TV news footage of the most appalling and vile treatment of living animals anyone could ever imagine. The footage of the conditions at of "HALLMARK MEAT" of California has been filmed by undercover ASPCA agents. There is now a massive recall of beef products that I'm sure many of you may have already heard of.

If there are any skin suppliers who have this company on your list of suppliers I would strongly urge you to stop buying from them IMMEDIATELY!

Here is a link to a news article:
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0c471a76-de91-11dc-9de3-0000779fd2ac.html

There is probably video out there somewhere but you would probably regret seeing it.

There are few things that bring out my foul temper - cruelty like this to any living creature is one of them! The ***-hole that I caught in my neighbourhood 2 years ago torturing his dog would testify to that...
