restoring 1973 gon bops conga

Postby bamiya » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:23 am

I never restored congas before. The harware is a little dull, the finish is peeling , there are a few dent or ding from drumsticks. Also I'm going to put a new skin on. I like the original skin, I really don't want to change the sound. What type of finish would be best. After staining it, should I used some type of oil or poly. Please give me the whole run down on restoring this drum. Shell, hardware and type of skin. I would truly appreciate it!
