Value of old Mariano Gon Bops Quinto?

Postby Anhedonius » Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:37 pm

Hi- I'm brand new here, hoping for opinions about a drum I've been offered. It's a Gon Bops Mariano quinto, 9-3/4" head, mahogany, a little beat up but nothing wrong that would need repairing, just nicks and gouges and old finish. Guy wants $395, which is about $20 less than I can buy a new one for just about anywhere.
Any opinions about this price are welcome. Thanks-

IMHO The going rate on a used Mariano is from 200.00 to 250.00 tops, anything above would have to be in prestine condition.
If you are one of patience you WILL find a better deal. There is someone local, I live in Covina Ca., who is selling a very nice one for 330.00. Check out the attach links.
Good luck

Vintage and a little beat up? Or is it one of the new ones and a little beat up?

Vintage Gon Bops go for a max of $300-$400 in very good condition. If they need repair, usually $300 is tops and more likely to be on the $100-$250 range depending on condition. Gon Bops are had much cheaper than $395 all the time, so not much of a deal really, unless you are just in love with the sound of the drum.

Those posted by King Conga are decent prices on some nice GB's in what looks like great condition.

Thanks much for the advice. I am now prepared to dicker. It's a beautiful old drum (not that I have much experience).
