Size of Flesh Rings

Hoping I could get some advice on the finer points of choosing the diameter of the flesh ring.

My first reheading of a Quinto. Reheaded rope tuned drums in the past. Thinking that the inside diameter of the crown rim would be the inside diameter of the flesh ring--good place to start. If the new skin is thicker would I want a slightly smaller ring size, alternately for a thinner skin would I want to a slightly larger ring size. Going to keep the original heads in place so I do not want to reuse the original flesh ring.

peace, marcus

Keep in mind that the crown needs to seat on the flesh hoop of course with the head on it.
The flesh hoop diameter should be the same as the crown diameter. Mounting conga heads
can be an ordeal specially thick hide. I hope this helps.

thanks RB,

There are always slight differences when mixing odds and ends, I was just wondering which way to good should there be a slight variation. Your right the crown ring needs to seat directly over the flesh ring for that locking fits.

Got my rings from Drumskulls over the weekend. Ordered 2 rings each so if there were any minor differences I could chose the best fit. The Conga and Tumba were perfect fits. The Quinto rings were just barely a bit different. One was right on and the other was slightly, and I mean slightly smaller. I would say maybe 1/32" inch difference. I was expecting a bit more variation in all 6 and was most impressed--the welds are really strong!!!!

Depending upon the thickness of the skins for the Quinto I decide upon, a thicker skin I will use the ever so slightly smaller ring. I know this is splitting hairs for some people, for me it is just finesse. Now I am ready for the next step. No big hurry.
