Hey all,

Who in your opinion is one of the best, if not the best Pop (popular, R&B, funk) conga player? Please give an example of their art; song link or Youtube link.

You can hardly clearly decide "The one is the best", as there are alot of equally nice examples.
Don Allias' records with David Sanborn were quite interesting.
Luis Conte at Ziggy Marley's "Love is my Religion" is very creative.
Lenny Castro on John Mayall's "Along for the ride" demonstrates nice approach too.
And what about Sola Akinbola of Jamiroquay ?

Ok Bob Conti with Donna Summers(Bob is on about 12 gold albums and platinum albums) and has been with Jose Feliciano for 30 years..

the Great Joe LaLa who just passed away was on the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever and many others who also garnered multiple Gold and Platinum albums over his 40 years career...

Johnny Griggs who played with the James Brown band for many years...

Carlos Martin...conga player on "Turn the Beat Around" and numerous recordings in the 70's in New York city(one of the greatest players around at the time)...

Ralph McDonald-producer arranger/percussionist on many albums in the 70's and 80's...

Johnny Conga with Santana, Gloria Gaynor(Disco Queen) , Sergio Mendes, Silver Convention, Al Downing, Fessor Funk, and others (70's and 80's)

Mtume-another funk player and jazz

Master Henry Gibson-Curtis Mayfield band and many others...

Chuggy Carter- Labelle and others

Doc Gibbs-played with everyone out of Philly in the 70's and 80's and still around today....(was the band on the Emeril cooking show)

I know there are others I cant think of right now ..when they come to me I will add them....

You guys forgot to mention my favorite, Eddie "Bongo" Brown with the Funk Brothers. The backing band for all the MoTown hits. Man I loved that guy.
