Buttery Tones

Happy Holidays to all in the forum,

I ran across this term, not sure where I read it--think it was this forum, but the term was the "the drum/bongo has a buttery sound". I would think that would be more of a dry sound rather than a wet sound, but dryer with a richness to it. Not sure how to describe this. I would think that a Djembe is certainly not a buttery sound and some bongos are also very sharp sounding. When I listen to Cuban Son groups some bongos give that "buttery sound". My new Conga and Tumba natural steer skins sound buttery as I soaked them to an al dente slightly wetter. Another skin on another Tumba I soaked longer and the skin stretched more and provided a wetter brighter sound.

Anyway does the term "buttery" sound like a good way to describe a tonal quality?

Yes, it does.. I sometimes use the terms "woody", and "nutty".. and even like to say "flavor" after them for effect. It's when there is a complete lack of high overtones or ringiness. Pretty much has to be a wood drum for this, and usually not tuned up high.

Buttery Flavor is indeed the term for me. I am just going to need to wear my sunglasses when I use this term.

You guys are funny First thing that came to mind with this one was a "biopsy" and the fact that it's dissecting a malignancy.. So, a "Gonbopsy" would be deconstruction of a Gon Bop to find out it's problems..
Maybe I'm over thinking this... Don't listen to me..

Oh well, yes, maybe you are overthinking it
but maybe I should have tried a less ambiguous word creation with less brutal connotations.
Any idea of how to make an adjective out of Gon Bops? Gon Boppish?

Not sure why a very positive thread referring to a description of tonal quality digressed into a commentary upon older Gonbops with references to human health issues. Why?

Sometimes, however, they deteriorate.
