question about head recomendation

Postby jangar59 » Sat Jul 11, 2015 5:38 pm

I am the percussionist at my church. We have 3 conga and 2 bongo drums They need new heads and the last time they were bought someone else ordered them. They were the remo synthetic heads they don't make anymore. I like the sound of natural heads but I am not always able to de-tune and retuneteh drums.
The drums are Afro brand:
Quinto “10 7/8”
Tumba “12”
Requinto “9 7/8”
The bongos are
Hembra “7”
Macho “8 ½”
All measurements are outside to outside of the bearing rim with the current heads on them.
I’m looking for some recommendations on what heads I can but that will last a good long time and will sound traditional even on stands(if that is possible)

Manito has some really outstanding steer skins that would give those
Afro drums the sound you are looking for.

Regarding synthetic heads: Afro Percussion was sold to Pearl. My information is, that shapes and sizes have been adopted exactly. Here you find the catalogues of Remo and Evans:

If you want to play it safe, contact Pearl directly:
