Hi all,

Apart from our passion for music and percussion, Im sure some of us have other hobbies outside the circle of the world of percussion and music.. You may have seen my other thread where I grow and make my own guiro's and chekere's...
So it promted this one, here's some hobbies I have aside from music...

For myself I collect conguero/percussionist/band statues and characters.. Below is a pic of my favourites.. (my collection over 100 little statues, collected from Sydney and around the world.)

I also collect and build die cast models of racing cars and done up cars. below are a few pics of my favouorites.. (collection is at approx 75 or so last time I counted)

And my other major passion outside of music is modifying cars and racing and doing up my own turbo vehicle.. Below is a shot of the engine in progress, we are hoping to make approx 290kw at the wheels (389HP at the wheels) and looking for a low 12 second or high 11 second quarter mile time out of it. The car is a 1992 Nissan 180sx twin cam 2.0L turbo 4 cyl. (in the States I believe they are imported as a 240sx but with a 2.4L non turbo engine) The car will be primarily a daily driver but also used for legal racing competitions, both circuit and quarter mile and drifting.

I have also been involved in Martial Arts for over 24 yrs...

So what else do you guys/girls get up to in your spare time away from music? Post pics!

Below are 5 of my favourite figuerines, I will take some more pics of the others later on if theres interest!

And when finished it should look fairly similar to this but in a dark cherry coca cola colour...

Fly fishing ey.. Nice. I do a fair bit of deep sea, beach and rock fishing myself.. My old man used to always take me when I was a kid. I find so much inner peace infront of the ocean..

Do you have pics of your bonsai? Ive always been a fan. :)

Other hobbies?

I make beer. Home brewing is a great hobby. If one has any success, a lot of encouragement will come from one's friends. For example, less than half of my friends are interested in latin music, but a very large percentage of my friends are interested in beer.

That's OK...I like sharing

I like to mentor some of the young guys from work. There is three of them none have had a positive male influence. Two of them were instates custody for most of there teen years .When I started with them they were all highschool drop outs and all drug users. Now one of them has went back and graduated, another has started on his ged he might test out in a couple of weeks and they are all now off of drugs. It's about the only other hobby other than my familly I can afford(most of my drums were gifts). My familly is my other hobby ,my son is an autistic kidney patient.my wife has a chronic pain disorder and several mental diseases. So I spend a great deal of time helping them and studying there aflictions I have a great passion for them.I would like to end up helping others that have mentally ill children to deal with the stress and stay together as families. My son goes to a school for special needs children.I have only met two other full families there the rest all single mothers. So thats about a ninty percent divoce rate.Drumming has helped me keep my sanity and I would like to share this with others.
happy drumming

Hey, CJK,, I also used to brew! When I quit I gave all the equipment to a friend of mine.
I worked it until I honed a personal favorite which very closely resembled Sierra Nevada... Then, I realized I could go to the store and buy the stuff already made for you at roughly the same cost, with no cleanup required! What a concept!???

It was still huge amounts of fun, and I can now talk all about the brewing the process whenever someone knowledgeable gives an opinion on a beer... :O

Chris, sounds like personal relationships are your creative endeavors! Wow! ???

Many of us home brewers (and growers!) out there. My favorite beer to make is an amber with lots of hops.

Windhorse ... I saw Big Head Todd play at Herman's many years ago. My brother lives in Denver still and I love to go see shows at Red Rocks, too.

Besides drumming I am also an avid mountain biker and endurance racer. Around six 100+ mile races with 12,000 to 18,000 feet of climbing, five 24 Hour races and about a dozen 50 to 75 milers. The Vail 100, Brian Head Epic, Old Pueblo, etc...

Also ... I LOVE animals and spend hours in the National Forest with my dogs. Hiking, backpacking, camping.

Here's a picture with my girlfriend after the "24 Hours in the Old Pueblo" race.

 Surfing and sailing. Hearing a conga player at a beach bar after a surf session kind of inspired me to get into percussion. I'm mainly a drumset drummer but hearing him and seeing how much he added to the band and crowd appreciation was an eyeopener.
