What's the theory and/or practice on de-tuning of Fiberskyn head after gig? Is it necessary? advisable? Want to treat my new Remo djembe right, and am used to de-tuning my muleheads after playing, and somehow feel the djembe head deserves the same treatment. Any experienced advice/info would be helpful.
congatick don't worry about detuning I have never heard of a remo djembe going out of round.I host drum circles and have several remo products I also preform with them they are very solid.I have been on a message board with and have jammed with Arthur Hull and he does not detune any of his( of course has hundreds of drums as he is the largest drum circle facilitater in the us) and has had no probs with his.If thats good enough for arthur it's good enough for me.You can lookup his drum models on remo's web site.here is his web site if your interested http://www.drumcircle.com/
Detuning Fyberskins I have done when the head is not a perfect fit and it causes stress to the head's own metal ring. Specifically with my bongos which are 7 but Fyberskins come in a 7 1/5. Hard to get the comfort rim of the bongo in a 7 macho to grab the head good. I believe that is the one of the reasons Fyberskins are coming like the NuSkyns 'tucked".
