About me

My user name is bongobro, but I'm a conga man! Actually, I play bongos, congas, djembes, doumbek--almost anything that can be played by hands and can produce a tribal beat. I've dug percussion since my teen years, but I began formally studying percussion in 1984, when I was in my early 30s...I also play set, but given the choice, you'll always find me behind the hand drums! I've kept the beat goin' with my church's guitar group since 2002, but I've played with musicians ranging from fiddle-and-guitar duos to a "garage band" thrown together by my former colleagues at a radio station in St. Louis, Missouri...to a country-rock band...to occasional appearances with an 18-piece big band based in my current home town of Granite City, Illinois, just six miles east of St. Louis. Until September 2007, I was the program director and webmaster for that St. Louis radio station mentioned earlier; I was also a talk show host there for more than 25 years. I am now working in the lawn-and-garden department of a major department store near my home; I am also a free-lance writer; for six years, I was the contributing area for The St. Louis Area Family Gazette, a magazine whose focus was on families with young children looking for interesting and exciting things to make and do. Looking forward to meeting my brother and sister congueros and congueras! Keep the beat goin'--but don't keep it to yourself! bongobro
