Fyberskins - More overtones, more bassy tones. Volume tends to be higher on this

Regarding synthetic heads...Fyberskins came first...then people checked Evans...some people got the NuSkyns but were dissapointed, like Evans, with the low volume /projection of sound and went back to Fyberskins....Fyberskins are winning right now in their use.

There are two Fyberskins in the market. One is the traditional with the "drumshell like" ring and a new model with a traditional ring type like natural heads. Remo claims is the same film although they have different color. (The original Fyberskin with the "drumshell like" is more brown and the traditional ring model is beige or lighter in color).

NuSkins are actually white in color.

Piece of advice...Not all synthetic heads fit perfectly in all brands although the brands or Remo might claim a head is the one that fits the conga or rim. So..don't be dissapointed if the head you buy does not fit perfect...

An experience with Fiberskyn: I have one on my small bongo (the 'macho' bongo), had it there for years - it's very strong and still has sharp enough sound for me. But after a year or so, the outer layer of the fibersyin started to peel off, just from me playing it a lot. It's a papery layer that covers the stronger plastic layer underneath. This outer layer may be what gave it a more 'natural' sound; now it's like a Nuskyn, which seems to have only one plastic layer. So the fiberskyn may sound better than the nuskyn while that outer layer lasts, but if/when it eventually peels off, it seems to me the same as the nuskyn...

In regards to the "film" utlized, Remo claims Fyberskins and NuSkyns are different films, hence, different sounds.

Gilbert: The same claim you have about the Evans and NuSkins, it lacks volume, is the reason people are going to Fyberskins again after "leaving". Of course, none of this synthetic heads will suffice for the warmth and sound of a natural head.
